Hey let's talk

I’m always eager to build innovative solutions on the open web or help others find the resources they need to succeed. I specialize in Decoupled Drupal & Magento development using frontend Javascript frameworks such as React, Angular and Gatsby.

If you’ve got questions my office door is always open so send me a message or hit me up on your favorite social media network.

“I hate Drupal, it’s not easy to use like Wordpress, Wix, Squarespace, bla bla bla!” yes many of us Drupal developers have heard this common complaint and are prepared with a litany of facts to back up our position why Drupal is superior. Content specialists and marketers don’t desire more facts but have built up strong feelings from their experiences assembling content.

Content creators want to develop their materials in the most intuitive and frictionless methods possible and oftentimes the Drupal editing interface becomes an impediment.

What About Paragraphs?

Paragraphs have come a long way and made assembling collections of content easier but oftentimes Drupal sitebuilders configure these interfaces in confusing ways and even ideally configured there are still limitations.

Layout Builder Must Be Pretty Good Though Right?

Much like paragraphs this tool is very powerful but it isn’t as elegant as the solutions offered by solutions like Wix & Squarespace. When using layout builder many content admins complain that it feels like old technology and isn’t flexible enough for their needs.

So What’s Better About Gutenberg?

Content creators want visual interfaces that are boundary free. They want to drag and drop and plug pieces together in associative ways and play around with how it looks. They want to have fun with the content and visualize different options before clicking that publish button. Gutenberg creates an environment where the creator feels like they are creating something and isn’t restricted by whatever limits some coder has arbitrarily imposed.

The downside to Gutenberg is that unlike typical Drupal content everything is stored in one big blob of a text area rather than segmented out into fields. For some content this is unacceptable as this lack of fields takes away meaning and the ability to drill down into data via searching tools.

Gutenberg shouldn’t be considered a 100% solution for a Drupal site but rather an option for content administration on landing pages where marketers need greater flexibility.
